Protecting your baby during the Covid-19 pandemic can be challenging.  During this time of uncertainty, you are probably receiving mixed messages on how to best keep your baby safe.

Here are some smart tips on keeping your baby safe if you must go out in public.

The best way to protect your baby is to avoid public contact and mitigate exposure. However, If going out is essential and you cannot leave your baby at home, we recommend the following:

  • Cover the infant carrier, car seat, or stroller (not your baby) with a light weight blanket. This will help protect baby, but still gives baby the ability to breathe comfortably.
  • Do not leave the blanket on your baby while they are in the car or when your baby is not in direct view.
  • Be sure to check on your baby often to make sure their breathing is normal.
  • Do not put any face covering on your baby.
  • Be sure to follow the six-feet distancing rule during your outing.
  • Do not let anyone but you touch your baby.
  • Keep baby safe by limiting the time of your outing to as short of time as possible.
  • Never leave children alone in the car. It can become deadly hot in a short time.

Protecting your baby once you return home:

  • Be sure to wash your hands and your first and then your baby’s hands.
  • We suggest using soap and water to wash your baby’s hands.  Some hand sanitizers can be harsh on baby’s delicate skin.
  • Wash and disinfect all objects your baby had with them during the outing such as pacifiers, blankets, and toys.

It is important to follow CDC guidelines to keep baby safe.
